WINTER TRAINING TIPS
We all know how hard it can be motivating yourself to get out of the comforts of your warm home/bed to go and train on those chilly winter days. Have you in the past winter seasons bailed on your workouts and fallen off the training band wagon and as a result your body composition goals have slipped? THIS WINTER don’t let the chilly season be the same as all others! Here are some tips and inspo you need to prepare yourself for this time round:
- Easier said than done, try not to snooze your alarm. Get up as soon as it goes off so you don’t give yourself time to think of excuses. Chances are if you snooze your alarm and go back to sleep you will wake up feeling drowsier. If you are a regular alarm snoozer – set the alarm clock across the other side of the room so you HAVE to get up.
- Get your active wear out the night before and have it all prepared to put on and go!
- Get the right winter active wear! Lightweight rain jacket, light long sleeve top, tights and gloves.
- Wear layers that can be easily removed.
- Start cool! You want to be a little cool in your gear when you first step outside, your body will heat up pretty quickly so you don’t want to start too cosy and warm.
- Warm up properly and even extend your warm up – only increase your pace / training once your body has warmed up to save yourself from injury.
- Have something to look forward to! Whether it’s the feeling of satisfaction afterwards you trained or a warm coffee and breaky.
- Be tough. Tell yourself that training in cold weather is something that is going to make you mentally tough. A bit of positive mindset can make all the difference in getting yourself out the door.
- Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Even though it’s colder, you still need to hydrate and drink lots of water whilst training.
